Savanna wants to choose. This loving beauty just needs you to understand that. Savanna is suffering from severe trauma, which has made her fearful and nervous in strange surroundings and of sudden noises. But she is very loving, tolerant, and intelligent. Show her you can be trusted and she will respond with trust and affection. Once she understands something or someone does not represent a threat, Savanna grows comfortable in that situation. On first meeting her foster's family, she allowed each member to approach her, one at a time, then touch her. On her first walk in this new neighborhood, she met several teenagers and a young couple, having gentle, friendly interaction with all of them. Her strong motherly instinct makes her a natural protector of those smaller and weaker than she is. Upon meeting her foster's young puppy, her first instinct was to care for him. When the puppy approached her, she would wag her tail, cuddle up beside her, and lick her face. Savanna responded by licking his tummy and wanting to accompany him when he went outside. While Savanna is overcoming her fears, she still has a way to go. She is still fearful about car rides, but is now enjoying walks and her time outside. She has grown to like sitting near her foster, or curling up with her companion to rest. An ideal home for Savanna would be a quiet home, with a loving companion who is patient enough to give her the time she needs to take the steps to overcome her past traumas and who is understanding enough to know she wants to choose when she is ready to make the next step. Give her those things and Savanna will show what a warm, loving, intelligent companion she can be. Ask permission to touch her. Ask if she wants to come to you. She will think long and hard, but she will choose. Savanna wants to make her own choices. If you are lucky, one of those choices will be you.
