Lucky is bound to make some fortunate dog lover feel like they hit the jackpot. He is a high-energy people pleaser who will work hard to earn your love. He is already house trained and does well with a kennel. Lucky has been receiving some one-on-one training sessions with volunteers and staff to help reinforce his obedience while creating a smoother transition into their forever home. Lucky will walk politely on a leash and knows the following commands: sit, down, come, and stay. Lucky does need plenty of attention and outdoor activity. He loves just about any dog toy you can throw at him, but he is also endlessly entertained with nothing more than a simple ball. He can get a little over-exuberant at times, but it is clear he is learning very quickly that he needs to restrain himself if he wants to receive the affection he craves. When he was in a foster home, he proved to be an amazingly sweet dog who loves hugs and lounging with his person watching movies. He happily greeted people at the door, following directions, and liked to sleep in his own bed. He never chewed up anything or had potty accidents. He LOVED to cuddle and chew on bones, and he also talked back when he was asked a question! In addition to all of Lucky's wonderful natural qualities, he has been working hard to be a dog you can take anywhere with pride. Lucky has been working on his Canine Good Citizen skills, and has passed the tests to be CGC-ready, should you want to take the official test. To pass the American Kennel Club's CGC test (and be considered CGC-ready by APA), a dog must demonstrate obedience and general reliability in real world situations. An APA CGC-ready dog knows sit and down, walks nicely on leash, will sit calmly when you are approached by strangers or another dog, won't approach people or dogs without permission, stays in sit or down until told 'free,' and comes when called. This training is very connected to your dog's relationship with you, so APA will work with you to help you establish this relationship and keep the training going. CGC-ready dogs can even take the official AKC test through APA! Lucky needs somebody who is willing to spend the necessary time to help him be the happiest, healthiest doggie possible. This includes a lot of play, outdoor time and training. Don't forget that the APA Behavior team will work with any of our adopted dogs for free.
