German Shepherd Dog - Llewellyn - Large - Adult - Male - Dog
Lewellen may be an adult dog, but much of the world still seems new to him and he reacts much like a puppy at heart - rolling on his back, playing with balls and petting his people with his enormous paw. Now in foster care, this handsome boy is romping happily with his two female dog buddies and coexisting very well with five cat friends (although he's been known to chase one harmlessly). He walks well on his leash (and will bark at other dogs he sees). A smart guy, he's crate trained, seems house trained and quickly learned his name and the sit, lie down and shake commands. Lewellen likes to plant his head on his person's lap and sleep on the floor underfoot to keep her company while she watches TV or works at a desk. He loves to carry plush toys to his bed to hug and cuddle them, and on his own he carries sticks and bats a tennis ball around like a playful cat. A neglectful early environment and mistreatment may be responsible for Lewellen's timidity and fearfulness. He was afraid to be left alone in his foster home at first. He's fearful of strangers in the house, and has been known to nip at them. Rapid movements or sudden loud noises startle him. His foster family is making excellent progress in helping him overcome his anxiety and gain confidence, and he's becoming a much more relaxed, loving companion, open, gentle and playful. Lewellen will do well in an adult-only home with other dogs to play with, and even cat buddies, and patient owners who will continue reassuring him that he's safe and loved.
